You can not try Anorexia.

Description

Anorexia is a mental illness, you can not try it as if it were a diet.

All right. There is a lot of confusion around this subject.
Is it just skipping meals once in a while, are all skinny people anorexic, is it for attention, is it because of media, etc.
Let me teach you so that you can understand this better.

Some differences between dieting and anorexia:
Healthy Dieting:
Healthy dieting is an attempt to control weight.
Your self-esteem is based on more than just weight and body image.
You view weight loss as a way to improve your health and appearance.
Your goal is to lose weight in a healthy way.

Anorexia:
Anorexia is an attempt to control your life and emotions.
Your self-esteem is based entirely on how much you weigh and how thin you are.
You view weight loss as a way to achieve happiness.
Becoming thin is all that matters; health is not a concern.

Symptoms:
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, as well as a distorted body self-perception. It typically involves excessive weight loss and is usually found more in females than in males (but does occur in males!). Because of the fear of gaining weight, people with this disorder restrict the amount of food they consume. This restriction of food intake causes metabolic and hormonal disorders. They may practice repetitive weighing, measuring, and mirror gazing, alongside other obsessive actions to make sure they are still thin, a common practice known as "body checking". People with anorexia nervosa continue to feel hunger, but they deny themselves all but very small quantities of food. Anorexia nervosa has the highest rate of mortality of any psychological disorder. Symptoms for a typical patient include refusal to maintain a normal body mass index for their age. Amenorrhea, the absence of three consecutive menstrual cycles. Fearful of even the slightest weight gain and takes all precautionary measures to avoid weight gain and becoming overweight. Obvious, rapid, dramatic weight loss. Lanugo: soft, fine hair growing on the face and body. Obsession with calories and fat content of food. Preoccupation with food, recipes, or cooking; may cook elaborate dinners for others, but not eat the food themselves. Dieting despite being thin or dangerously underweight. Rituals: cuts food into tiny pieces; refuses to eat around others; hides or discards food. Purging: uses laxatives, diet pills, ipecac syrup, or water pills. May engage in frequent, strenuous exercise. Perception of self to be overweight despite being told by others they are too thin and, in most cases, underweight. Becomes intolerant to cold and frequently complains of being cold from loss of insulating body fat or poor circulation resulting from extremely low blood pressure; body temperature lowers (hypothermia) in effort to conserve energy. Depression. Solitude: may avoid friends and family; becomes withdrawn and secretive. Swollen joints. Hair loss or thinning. Fatigue. Rapid mood swings

Things that can cause anorexia:

Psychological causes and risk factors for anorexia: People with anorexia are often perfectionists and overachievers. They’re the “good” daughters and sons who do what they’re told, excel in everything they do, and focus on pleasing others. But while they may appear to have it all together, inside they feel helpless, inadequate, and worthless. Through their harshly critical lens, if they’re not perfect, they’re a total failure.
Family and social pressures

Family and social pressures: In addition to the cultural pressure to be thin, there are other family and social pressures that can contribute to anorexia. This includes participation in an activity that demands slenderness, such as ballet, gymnastics, or modeling. It also includes having parents who are overly controlling, put a lot of emphasis on looks, diet themselves, or criticize their children’s bodies and appearance. Stressful life events—such as the onset of puberty, a breakup, or going away to school—can also trigger anorexia.
Biological causes of anorexia

Biological causes of anorexia:Research suggests that a genetic predisposition to anorexia may run in families. If a girl has a sibling with anorexia, she is 10 to 20 times more likely than the general population to develop anorexia herself. Brain chemistry also plays a significant role. People with anorexia tend to have high levels of cortisol, the brain hormone most related to stress, and decreased levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, which are associated with feelings of well-being.
Major risk factors for anorexia nervosa

Major risk factors for anorexia nervosa:
-Body dissatisfaction
-Strict dieting
-Low self-esteem
-Difficulty expressing feelings
-Perfectionism
-Troubled family relationships
-History of physical or sexual abuse
-Family history of eating disorders

Facts and numbers:
- Over 100.000 girls from age 12 to 18 suffer from an eating disorder.
- Anorexia usually occurs in adolescence and in young adults.
- About 45% of the patients recover fully, 30% partly recovers and 25% does not recover at all.
- Between 5% and 20% of people who develop the disease eventually die from it.
- Anorexia has the highest death rate of any mental illness.
- People with Anorexia often have other developed problems such as self harm, and can suffer from other mental illnesses.
- The disease takes an average of 6-7 years, with a range from six months to ten years.
- The risk of relapse is considerable. For 1 in 4 people it turns chronic
