I notice how people treat the subject 'self mutilation'.
And some really do it in a positive and mature way (which makes me happy), but other just continue to say thinks like: 'it's disgusting', 'cutters are fake emos that want attention', 'why don't you slice your throat instead of your arm', etc, etc. let's not get too negative.
Before you generalize self mutilation I strongly suggest you read a book about it and form your opinion afterwards. I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't understand what they're talking about (especially when they relate suicide to self mutilation, both are very different things) or only heard one version of self mutilation. (from a friend dealing with it for example, let me tell you I could come up with a lot of reasons why people harm themselves. Your friend probably only has no more than five of them.)
This results into pointless arguments about whether self mutilation is for attention or not, whether it's to feel alive or not, whether it's because they want to release tension or not. There is no answer to these questions. Every single person that is involved in self mutilation has their own reasons.
I can understand if you look down upon it, but then you should also look down upon drug addicts and people addicted to smoking in my opinion. would be pretty hypocrite otherwise, but maybe you have a great reason for it
I don't promote self mutilation or any other addiction. On the contrary: I advise anyone to stay away from it. But people each lead their own lives and they make their own decisions and mistakes to learn from. That's life.
